UEFA Euro 2028: everything we know so far
We've used and abused our secret sources of information to bring you all of the information you need for the next edition of the Euros. Don't say we don't treat you.
Our 2028 hosts
Hold on to your horses because the Euro 2028 hosts are none other than us!
Well, not us as in Flaming Grill, us as in our country. The UK and Ireland are hosting the tournament, which means that we're gonna need to be on top form to show all the other countries exactly how it's done.
The schedule
So...
- The opening match for Euro 2028 is set for the 9th of June 2028 at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
- The Round of 16 starts on the 24th of June, with the eight matches played across the 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th of June, setting us up for the Quarter-finals on the 30th of June and the 1st of July.
- The Semi-finals will take place on the 4th and 5th of July and the final will be on the 9th of July 2028, all held at Wembley Stadium.
- The matches will all be played at 2pm, 5pm or 8pm as well – none of that up in the middle of the night rubbish that we had to put up with in the World Cup! Watching the Euros is about to be a real treat.
Which teams are in?
Usually, when there's only one country hosting the Euros, UEFA give them an automatic place. Unfortunately for us, they won't be giving all four countries places and that means that we'll all be going into the qualification rounds to fight for a place in the Euros.
Whatever the results, at least two teams out of Scotland, England, Wales and the Republic of Ireland will have a place, and even if all four teams make it in, they'll be in different groups.
What about the women's?
The next UEFA Women's Euros is set for Germany in 2029. England are the defending champions (back-to-back, no less), and there'll be a few teams looking to get their revenge. Currently, Germany are the only qualified team for the 2029 UEFA Women's Euros. Don't worry, when there's more information to share, we'll make sure you've got everything you need to know to watch Euro 2029.
A whistle-stop tour of the history of the Euros
Considering we've not got much information about the next Euros, let's throw it back to Euros gone by.
When was the first Euros?
1960! Although there were only four teams, so it wasn't quite the same. We've been watching the current format (with 24 teams) since 2016.
Who's been the most successful at the Euros?
That would be Spain, who are also the defending champions after winning the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament.
Have we ever won a Euro Final?
No. None of our home nations have brought it home just yet – but we're holding out hope for England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland to do it in 2028!
